Living Like there's No God

I was asked today I was still writing here. The answer seems to be "no," but here's a thought that struck me today:

If humans are inherently bad, then it would indeed be a nightmare if everyone lived as if there were no God, because there would be no consideration of judgement or consequences for selfish action.

If humans are inherently good, then we're doing quite well if we all live like there's no God, because we must face that if we are to make this world a better place, it's up to us to do our part. There's no divine intervention to fix things for us.

So, if Christian conversion/baptism changes our nature from bad to good, shouldn't Christians live as if there is no God?

I think this is the point of the film Bruce Almighty. Bruce learned that he couldn't solve anyone's problems by giving them a miracle. He had to learn to"Be the Miracle."

I think this is also a New Testament concept. We share in Christ. We are his body. We are God's agents for change in the world.

The analogy of God as a loving father completes the idea. A loving Father does not always just fix things for his growing children. He wants them to mature into adulthood, where they take responsibility for their own lives. Eventually the child lives life as if "there were no Father", while maintaining a loving relationship with them. And in time of true need, Dad may step in and help, but first, he wants his children to become all they can be in their own right.
